Giuggiola, the armchair made to highlight the figure of women.

Every year, March 8^th is the International Women’s Day. A yearly recurrence not only to remember all social, political and economic battles that women have won but also to raise awareness on all the violence and discriminations women are still suffering. 

Very sensitive to this issue, Calia Italia has dedicated to women a model born from the collaboration with the students of the University La Sapienza in Rome: its name is Giuggiola.

This is an armchair that aims to emphasize the figure of women, of their beauty and their strength. Inspired to the way old times ladies in Matera used to tie their hair, in rolled up braids, the Giuggiola is characterized by a backrest made of 12 strands woven at the same time: a very complex process that makes each product unique, since being hand-made, it will be impossible to have two identical items. Each Giuggiola has its personality and its history, as every woman.

Moreover, in order to enhance the idea of the many facets that characterize a woman, Calia Italia presented this model in 6 variants: 

Giuggiola in sheep wool

The Giuggiola made with sheep wool brings warmth and recalls the Christmas time. It loves the pinewood, the cosy home environment and kids. It rather stays close to the fireplace and it is the perfect spot to tell stories about old peasants’ culture. 

Longhaired  Giuggiola 

Longhaired Giuggiola, in the sleek or waved version, loves to live outside; the rocky environment of the Matera area is its perfect environment. Perfectly matching the rupestrian churches scenario, it is proud to be part of this region and its culture.   

Giuggiola chic

The astracan fleece is the favourite material for a fancy Giuggiola that will never use valuable and expensive furs. This Giuggiola loves to be simple but cultured, it loves Dante and it is a teacher for the new generation.
