The German Design Awards are very prestigious awards, commissioned by the major authorities of the German design industry. Established in 1953 on the initiative of the Bundestag (German parliament) it is now awarded by the German Design Council – a world leader in brand management and design communication.

The vision of this competition (and its organisers) is to select projects based on how they can make a real, pioneering contribution to the German and international design scene. To this end, the German Design Awards identify and present the most important design trends.

‘Lazy’ is a modular sofa designed for Calia Italia by the designers of Studio Pastina.

Domenico Santoro and Francesca Puddu say that:

“we have often thought of the Lazy sofa as a sort of giant marshmallow”.

From the very beginning, this sofa was conceived as an object with soft and welcoming lines, without edges and capable of evoking the iconographic idea of comfort: the cushion.

From the single module, which can be used as an armchair, to the larger compositions, the ‘Lazy’ sofa has been designed to create multiple combinations. Furthermore, its extreme modularity and variety of finishes makes it suitable for any type of space and capable of responding to multiple needs.

Only a few signs, both essential and at the same time friendly, give shape to the Lazy sofa. It fits naturally into the contemporary domestic scene and is synonymous with the deep sensitivity of craftsmanship required to calibrate aesthetics and function in a perfect synthesis.

Studio Pastina has always applied its own personal vision of design and they work on a wide range of projects ranging from product design to interior design. The Studio has also been selected among the winners of ‘Ambiente - Young Design Talent Award 2016’ and for the 2017 edition of ‘Salone Satellite’. The studio's work has been exhibited at the Salone del Mobile, Ambiente, La Biennale di Venezia and in numerous similar events.
