When we buy a sofa, we do it whilst considering the people who we intend to share that sofa with. Whether it’s a sofa for a mountain cabin or for the waiting room of a dental practice, we can’t help but think about who will end up using it.
It’s when we imagine the people who might sit down on them and the things we might do with our sofas, that the ideal sofa starts to form in our minds.
Why not follow suit with those who choose the ‘Johnny sofa’ and like to fill their living rooms up with friends?
Or those people who choose the large and soft ‘Foster’ sofa, which more often than not (despite its spaciousness) we decide to keep to ourselves or only with a small number of those most dear to us.
Then, for example, there’s the Nicolas, a sofa equipped with a so-called “reclining armchair” – a reclining seat and a half in fact. How many of you could look at that and not imagine sharing it with that ‘special person’?
Think of the Belle Epoque, a sofa designed to encourage conversation be it for work, family or friendliness.
The Genius Loci sofa is a slim sofa, rigorous and square, with a double soul. It is minimalist for a refined and modern decor but at the same time ideal for a comfort experience thanks to a manual mechanism that raises the back.
The climax of sofa-sharing takes place during the Christmas holidays, a period in which sofas are used in many different ways. From those who use their sofas to accommodate the jackets of their guests to those who use them to accumulate the gifts about to be unwrapped – even an encyclopaedia would not be enough to list them all.
At Christmas, sofas are the favorite places of those cousins who, using the excuse of having eaten too much, sit comfortably instead of helping out. They are the amusement parks of the grandchildren who spend hours and hours jumping on them without ever getting tired. They are the places that welcome the aunts who, like every year, ask us if we’ll be able to finish University whilst we let them think that we’re on course to graduate with ‘cum laude’.
As for us, although we’ll probably forget why it was we chose that sofa, we’ll surely be grateful for its patience and proverbial welcome – a gift that on certain occasions is put to the test…
A sofa should be chosen with love because it is with love that we allow our cousins to enjoy the comfort of our Calia Italia sofa while we do the washing up. It is the same love that allows us to let our grandchildren play without hesitation.
We’re preparing ourselves for those pedantic aunts though…
